CMT ARTISTS OF THE YEAR
October 13th, 2021

Photographer Jeremy Cowart was hired by CMT to quickly photograph all the 2021 CMT Artists of the Year before they stepped onto the red carpet. Jeremy had just a couple minutes with each artist, using his brand new, patent-pending lighting technique called a “Lightograph”.
Stills
Jeremy’s process shoots 8 photos in less than one second with a different lighting setup for each photo.
So 8 light setups, 8 unique portraits in .8 seconds.
The process is so fast that the artist doesn’t even have time to move.
Jeremy is shooting with the Canon R5, which is a 47-megapixel camera, so each of the 8 portraits in his setup are high resolution.

GIFS
Because the process is so fast, it’s very easy and quick to export animated gifs of the artists for socials.
Lightographs
The final step is to combine the 8 photos into a lightograph, which is the “evolution of light through a still photo”.
Jeremy had 2 video editors onsite that were cranking the lightographs out as quick as possible.
All lightographs were finished and exported before his crew left the set.
Lightollages
As a fun bonus, it’s interesting to explore collages of light or “lightollages” as Jeremy calls them.
Because the subject doesn’t move, it’s possible to do all kinds of interesting masking and layering in photoshop, that’s never been possible before.
